HOW CAN WE MAKE NOTES FROM PASSAGES

Note making is skill. It entails a useful exercise and practise for the reader as it enables him/her to summarise relevant information from a given text and to use it whenever required at a later date.
(1) MAKING NOTES

while making notes,the following steps should followed:
(a) read the passage from begining to end.
(b) read the passage carefully and find the main division of the passage.
(c) try to find out allied ideas to the main idea in a paragraph . these allied ideas form the sub headings.
(d) these sub headings or allied ideas may have one or more ideas.

REMEMBER:
(a) notes are not written in complete sentences
(b) make points with use of symbols and abbreviated words.
(c) use proper identation.

(4) FINDING A TITLE

(a) passage-about what?
(b) underline main ideas
(c) organise into main and sub points
(d) first make a rough draft
(e) use recognisable abbrevation
eg:- education - edu.
goverment - gov.

Symbols like : &, +, *


(f) use numbers for figures
eg:- 12 meters - 12m
(g) make proper identation
(h) provide a key to your notes listing the abbrevation and symbols used
(i) don't miss out the title
